Meet Space Cowboy, the bearded dragon whose name nods to ‘90s anime classic Cowboy Bebop and whose chill demeanor rivals Spike Spiegel himself.
“When I was learning about bearded dragons, I saw quite a few social media accounts that named their dragon 'Spike,'" says Hannah G., dragon mom and Nationwide pet insurance member. "Whenever I hear the name Spike, I think of Spike Spiegel from the ‘90s anime, ‘Cowboy Bebop.’ Every episode is signed off with ‘See you, space cowboy’ and that phrase stuck with me until the end of the series (if you know, you know).”
When Space Cowboy isn’t chasing hornworms around the solar system, he likes to ride his space pumpkin. “It’s just felt—but he likes to pretend,” Hannah says. “I added other enrichment to his tank, but he ignored it. I added the pumpkin on a whim and it's become his favorite place to lounge.”
“Space Cowboy means a lot to me, and I wanted him to have coverage in case anything happens to him. As he gets older, reptile health can rapidly turn a bad corner, so I like that Nationwide has a reasonable price for covering an exotic animal.”
