February is Pet Dental Health Month, and Nationwide pet insurance is marking the occasion by reminding pet owners about the importance of regular dental care for their four-legged loved ones.

According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, an organization dedicated to advancing the science and art of veterinary medicine, 80 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats show signs of oral disease by the age of three.

It's a fact: Dental issues can plague our pets—and our wallets. In 2016, Nationwide pet insurance policyholders spent more than $13.8 million on dental conditions and procedures, the fourth most common type of claim submitted to the Nationwide during the year.
