Learning about cancer can be scary; read up on the following terms and descriptions so that you'll be in the know when discussing your pet's health with your veterinarian:

  • Tumor: A growth made up of abnormal cells. Also known as a mass or a lump, a tumor can be either benign or malignant.
  • Benign tumor: A non-cancerous growth that is usually confined only to the affected area.
  • Malignant tumor: A cancerous growth that is capable of spreading to other parts of the body.
  • Metastasis: The spread of cancer cells from the primary affected area to other parts of the body via the bloodstream or lymphatic system.
