AKC Announces Most Popular Dog Breeds of 2016

The list of the nation's most popular pure-breed dogs in 2016 has been released by the American Kennel Club, a non-profit organization that maintains the largest registry of purebred dogs in the world. Results are tabulated based on the organization's annual registration statistics. The list of 189 dog breeds was narrowed down to the top 10 four-legged companions that Americans preferred to take home.

Nationwide pet insurance has compiled the most common health conditions and most common names for each breed based on policyholder data.
