Dachshund Miniature

Dachshunds come in three kinds of coats, with different levels of shedding. All dogs shed, some a little and some a lot. The perception of how much a dog sheds typically related to how much fur ends up on clothing, furniture and carpets. Short-haired and long-haired dogs shed a similar amount but longer fur tends to make a bigger impression. Regular brushing keeping shedding to a minimum.

Smooth and wire-coated Dachshunds don't need trimming -- just regular combing, brushing and bathing as needed. Long-haired Dachshunds don't usually need clipping, but if you'd like to keep your long-haired Doxie's hair shorter, you can trim them -- or have a groomer do it.

It's easier for pet parents to put smaller dogs on a table or counter for grooming, but this does present a heightened risk for long-back dogs such as the Dachshund if they fall or jump off. You can buy a grooming attachment that fits on the edge of a table and has a loop to go over your Doxie's head or body to keep them on the table. Under no circumstances should your Dachshund be allowed to jump off the table. Instead, lift your Doxie carefully and lower them to the floor.
